hiya!
just wondered what, if any, mods can be done to the 2.2 direct engine to push it up from the 150bhp?
and costs involved if known.
thanx a lot!

I think people have remapped theirs and with an exhaust got over 160bhp....
so a lot of £££'s with not much increase then really?
that mentioned above isnt going to see much change out of £500 surely?
yep.. petrols aren't as esay to get massive power hikes out of.. unless they're turbo'd..
You could use all that £500 and more getting it up another 30 BHP..
can u get an induction kit or panel filter to help?
is the 2.2 direct a quick engine anyway or quite sluggish?
I think the 2.2 Direct is a good all round petrol engine. I had one in a preface SXi. Its quite torquey and should give between 30-35mpg.
But as for if its a quick engine, its not going to be as quick as a 2.0T or 3.2 V6! Also a 1.9 150 is quicker once its moving. Its very comparable with most similar 2.0 cars in the same class.
yep, you do have to rev it quite high to 'hussle' it along, then that puts the fuel consumption down into the 3.2V6 area..we used to average about 26mpg out of Mrs GSi's 2.2
if you want a cruiser it it'll be fine..if you want a fast car..buy a turbo or a 3.2V6.. if you want ultimate ecomony.. get a 1.9CDTi..
It does appear that the old 2.2 is a good deal thirstier than the 2.2 Direct, from reading other posts. My 2.2 Direct wasnt too bad at all and I'd never get any less than 29mpg around town at the very worse. Usually mixed driving, 30-35mpg. And the Direct is slightly quicker too
so u wouldnt say it is sluggish then? i have drivwen a cdti 150 before and was impressed...however i've heard that the 2.2 direct take a lot to get going? cant believe thats true but i guess its a big 'ol car to tun without a turbo?
I would say the 2.2 Direct is a lively engine and goes especially well with Shell V-Power in it. I ran that in mine all the time and you could tell a difference.
I wouldn't say its particularly sluggish in the low down rev range. It wont set your hair alight, but if you were impressed with the 1.9 150, you'll like the 2.2 Direct. But it will drink more though!
I would say the 1.9 150 is a better bet but will cost more to buy, but if you only want a petrol then the 2.2 Direct isnt too bad a motor. You do really need to give one a good test before you buy one though. Maybe get along to a meet?
