Default first service today. Problem now !

Had my baby serviced for the first time today (sri cdti150 26,000 miles 2 years old)
cost £175 with free courtesy car, 12 months AA cover and a wash. pretty good value i thought seems even quicker now or is it just me !
anyway my problem, i have stubby valves with alloy dust caps and they will not shift for anything wondering if it is the salt on the roads recently anyone got any brainy ideas short of having the valves replaced ? garage say they will do it but will cost approx one hours labour.

Surely going to a tyre agent would be cheaper, and getting new valves and balance at the same time
Remove the plastic ones they fit, and then wipe the thread with compound grease to prevent the METAL ones from chemically reacting

Have you tried using a pair of pliers, one on the valve and one on the cap?
However you might end up damaging the cap and/or thread

thanks for that but as i said i have stubby valves so no valve showing to grip on may need to go to an agent as you say or stick it out without checking the pressures for a while as tyres are near the end of their life anyway.

You make this mistake only once - as I did (!!!) - never fit metal/alloy dust caps without a good smear of grease on the threads.

Had a minor heart attack the first time when they wouldn't come off.......
