I have just aquired a 2006 Vectra 1.8 VVT and have noticed some strange goings on when changing gear especially in 1st & 2nd gear changes. When I change from 1st to 2nd, I plant my foot on the clutch and take my foot off the accelerator. This strangely causes the revs to climb. To make smooth gear change, I have to wait for the revs to drop after a short period of time then continue otherwise it sounds and feels as though I'm revving too high. This makes quick gear changes noisey and out of the question unless you want to sound like you cannot drive. Is this common behavior for a Vectra and maybe this engine inparticular or do I have a engine management problem?

I've also noticed that when dropping gear to go downhill, the engine doesn't give much resistance and more braking is needed and tends to run away. Is the Vauxhall's attempt to keep revs high for economy purposes?
