so long as you have reflectors, and whatever you tint still allows a cetain amount of light through I think it's OK. Don't take my word for it though.

As a general rule, anything that deviates from the standard factory issue should be separately tested / approved to prove it conforms on our highways - in the case of lights, they should be e-marked, or have other certification (e.g. TUV/Dekra certification). Home made tinting is a no-no in the strictest sense, but MOT testers tend to take a more pragmatic approach in this country. I know from my years in Germany that unless you have a certificate to prove something complies with the law, the car will fail it's MOT (TUV).

By the way, this also goes for aftermarket alloys, non standard tyre sizes, etc etc - they're a massive safety issue after all. That is also why over half the wheel brands available in the UK aren't available in Germany... they're not certified.

It's one thing telling your insuarnce company about them; another thing entirely proving that they're up to the job.

as long as you don't tint the reflectors and only use a light tint (no more than a smoke) you should be fine..if you want to go darker than a light smoke, then you'll start to hit trouble..

It isn't illegal to tint them, as long as it's done properly. My tail lights have been tinted with a specific spray paint designed for that job- it is TUV tested

if you just use any paint then you can expect to be pulled
