i need a spare key

Hi, I have just purchased a lovely 03 reg Vectra 1.8LS but it only came with one key (the 3 button type, has p/n=24415490 on the back). When I asked Vauxhall how much a replacement would be they quoted £106+vat!!!!

As I'm now skint after stretching my budget to buy the thing I was thinking of buying one of the ones seen for sale on ebay.

Does any one know what this entails? (how much should I expect to pay for the fob itself, how much does a replacement blade cost? How much does it cost to have the blade cut, who does the key get coded to the car, and how much does the re-coding cost? etc)

I've seen a few on e-bay but they seem to have the original blade, and bit of plastic (the bottom half of the fob that comes off with the blade when opened up) missing. When you buy the blade does this bottom 1/2 cover come with it?

I have no idea what the ones on ebay you refer to are, but th expensive part of the key is the bit with the buttons on, as inside that is the electronics bit that turns off the immobiliser. This has to be programmed by the dealer to your car.

By the time you buy any e-bay key, get the blade replaced and have to have it reprogrammed it may cost you as much anyway!

Hi
your best bet is sticking to your local dealer
my dealer only charges £95 inc vat inc coding in
if its a laser cut key then its gonna be a factory cut.(Z code on your car pass key code is laser cut)
just hope you have the car pass codes..otherwise your looking at more money for a replacement £15 at my dealer.
even if you manage to buy the correct fob of ebay your still gonna have to go though your dealer to code in!
stick with dealer supply and code in

i've got the card that has VIN/radio code/ etc.

Against Key No it has H**** (*=numbers)

Does that mean it isn't factory cut?

is your car a network q car? it shoudl have come with 2 keys. I have the same problem with my 54 plate elite but the dealer is sorting it out

nah, it was a private sale. I did negotiate a few hundred quid off due to the fact a service was iminent, tax out at the end of the month, and the spare key missing.

I managed to buy a keyfob only on ebay for a tenner as my keyfob was beginning to tear on the buttons. Plannin to take the old one off and get the dealer to reprogramme the new one.

I remember losing my key about a year ago. My dealer got me a full new key and changed the code on my spare too so that the lost key was effectively useless. it only cost me £75 odd
