    Default fm modulator.....

i'm running a dvd and lilliput 7" screen. The simplest way to get sound through the original speakers was throug an fm modulator.

Problem is i get a whinning through it now i've connected it all up.

Could it be i need a better earth??

It sounds like the radio is on AM rather than FM if you know what i mean.

    Any ideas guys??

ok gsi thanks for your reply. prior to the fm modulator the radio receptio was perfect, so it defo has something to do with the modulator, oe the earth.

I was thinking the earth as i only used 1mm cable for the live feed and the earth....

what do u think... thicker guage cable?

It may or may not be related but when I wired in my Parrot car kit I experienced a whine which got louder with acceleration. I moved the earth feed from the back of the ciggy lighter to the back of the Quad Lock on the head unit and it completely disappeared. So it would seem that the ciggy lighter provides a 'noisy' earth.

that may well explain why i get a whine via our modulator.. it's powered by the ACC socket, so it'll get plenty of 'hum'.. maybe time for a hardwired kit..

Anyone got a hardwired kit that doesn't suffer from this whine??..i want one..

that could be the problem, the live is from behind the h/u for all 3 units, (screen, dvd, and modulator) but the earth for the 3 are all going straight to the battery, 3 separate wires???
