Default Whens It Due A Service?

Only just got the car, but wanting to know when I should service it in order to maintain the warranty, its an 05 54, with 12.5K and its got both the trip computer and service indicator features. not sure what all this trip computer telling you how many miles before a service is due, and what service program the cars been set to, ecoflexs, etc. its all new to me.

usually just go by what it indicates in the book, e.g. for my astra it says 1yr/10K so I go by that. the Vec is confusing me a bit.

    any gen?

    Hi,

Press your trip computer reset button with the keys out of the ignition and look in the display under the rev counter ... what do you see?

There's been quite a few threads on this, one very recently. Have a search for service or EcoFlex or EcoService on the forum and you should find a good number of answers.

so if mines on ecoflex can I just fire it into the dealer when it hits 20K/2years and they cant screw me by saying I've invalidated the warranty.

also, can I change the service schedule between flex and service myself?? as cant understand why they'd give you a choice of servicing it at 1yr/10K or 2yr/20K as most folk would go for 2yr/20K as it is 1 of the recommended intervals and saves cash.

I personally wouldn't leave the oil for 20,000 miles, for peace of mind and longevity of the engine, i would do it more frequently.

Modern oils are very good these days.

Actual mileage is a very poor indicator of when to change oil. Far more important is no. of cold starts, usual travel distance, conditions etc. mileage is actually very well down in the pecking order of factors affecting oil quality.
