Default difference in service costs why?

hi evryone, not been on for a while hope you are all ok.
anyway as the title suggests, i rang up to price the anual service(vec will be 2 years old in march) moorland motors blackpool want £196 +extra £20 for brake fluid change. perrys preston £156+£28 for brake fluid change.so yes you guessed it , off to perrys minus the extra £28 for brake fluid, i will get it done in 6 months time along with an oil change from a mobile mechanic i know. anybody tell me why the huge price difference ????

Dealers can charge their own labour rate
When comparing services ALWAYS ask what their labour rate is (including VAT)...
Some dealers in the London area are about £65 per hour
Here in Scotland they are about £48 per hour
I have a contract with Arnold Clark, and I pay a fixed £39 per hour

    i'm with him..^^^^^^^..

do your own work and you'll save a packet. and if you're still under warranty have it serviced independantly in accordance with the VX schedule and VX still have to honour the warranty..The ONLY good thing to come out of the EU..Block exemption rules..

If you do go for Perrys get them and Moorland to list EXACTLY what will be done and changed ... Moorland may be quoting for changing some items which it is a good idea to change but Vx state you don't really need to change yet ... and if you do go for Perrys be very wary and mark the items that will be changed if you can. I have personally had seriously bad experiences with them and know of other people who have too ... Moorland on the other hand I have always had good experiences with. These experiences are a fair few years ago so they could have changed but just be wary

You must be an auditor too!
That's what I do, and immediately after the service mark all the items with the date changed on them
I caught one dealership out on this...
Checked the Air Filter, and although it was CLEAN, it still had the date that I had written onto it 4 months previous

Sound advice IMO if you give your car to un-trusted third parties for service. ... by the way have you got supporting documentation for that?

I try and use the same dealership throughout a cars life...
That way they get wise that you will be checking it before and after the service, and it can work wonders!
The best was on my previous Vectra B, car in for a service at 08:00 and got a phone call at 10:00 to say it was completed and ready, the way it should be!

Good friend of mine has his motor serviced in France!
He books his car in, goes over on the ferry gets superb service from the Opel dealer, Courtesy car or being dropped off & picked up from the town etc. Then he stocks up on booze and then comes back in his freshly serviced car and he maintains a main dealer history.
He says that doing all of this, ferry and booze included never costs him any more then his Vauxhall dealer charges for the service in the UK and he gets a day in France. (which may or may not be a good thing depending on your take!)

    to the Vauxhall stealers!!
