Excuse my ignorance but what does "live map the 1.9CDTI" mean?
Excuse my ignorance but what does "live map the 1.9CDTI" mean?
it is where the tuner lets you drive the car in real life situations and then alters the fuelling map to increase the power while you drive, via an ecu connection with the OBD socket.. sometimes they do it on a rolling road, but the best maps are done under load on the public highway..
the tuner will download your map, adjust it, try it, then alter it to suit..a proper remapping session..not a laptop in a carpark job..
Ok, cheers Mark
Thank-you all.
Is it worth remapping my 1.8? Cost vs extra bhp etc?
at best you will see an extra 10% out of it..for more 'drive-ability' i'd start with a few simple mods to the car's air filter and maybe even the exhaust, to make it breathe easier and cure the flat spots that they have.. they won't be major mods to the air filter housing so don't expect the earth, but they help it breathe easier..
Always mod your car first then remap otherwise you're wasting money.
It is worth remaping though, yes.
Remapping a normally-aspirated engine will never yield the kick-in-the-pants transformation that turbocharged engines can. Yes, you can put a big-bore exhaust & downpipe on there, a 100 cell sports cat, some head polishing, derestricted air intake (say K&N)... however you might jump from 140 to about 160-165bhp (assuming you have a VVT to begin with). Personally I wouldn't bother, go & get yourself a 2.2, a 2.0T or a 1.9CDTI.
