Question Cold Weather = Rough Starting

    Hi all,

hope someone can help out here... I have a Signum 1.9CDti 150 Auto with 9K on the clock. Bought 2 weeks ago - all has been well. Only modification has been fitment of my 5 month old DTUK 'Green' box (set at 1oclock).

I have noticed with the very low temps over the last few days:

    * When Cold starting the engine cranks longer & starts rough (chuggy)
    * The engine sounds nosier (I know its a diesel!!) & sluggish.

Help!! It clears so so when warm & MPG seems ok etc - Is it the DTUK box causing this or is it something normal/ abnormal??

P.S - My Astra had same engine with the same Box - with none of the above.....

    Cheers - Matt

    Yes, it's deffo the box.

My CR1 does exactly the same.

As the temp really drops more fuel is pushed in to aid starting.

With a box on this is too much & makes it chug for a few seconds.

My CR1 is off until conditions improve.

Could be partially waxing diesel. If the car's been sitting on a forecourt for several months you might still have some summer diesel in the tank which will wax-up in cold weather.

    Thumbs up

    Thanks for the ideas chaps.

    * Waxing in fuel: - The car was on the forcourt for 4 weeks, Dec/Jan. + The first time I filled the tank - in went a bottle of injector cleaner.

    * Box is set at 1oclock - this is how they come from DTUK (should be around +15bhp & 10% torque at this setting.

Update: - Box is off & guess what - none of the original symptoms - though it hasnt been as cold up here this week.

    Cheers, Matt
