Tyre Fitting

Its been over a week now since I had my two new front tyres replaced through black circles at a fitting place in Paisley, However I've since noticed a slight shuddering/vibration through the steering wheel at speeds over 70/80mph. If memory serves is this a wheel balancing issue?

The service from blackcirles was great, its such a shame their image is let down by dodgy back street fitters who get business through their name, take the fee but then are too lazy to finish the job properly. I've e-mailed b/c, hopefully get a reply soon.

That's not always the case - that the fitters have been lazy. The Vec C / Signum can be a bit sensitive to balancing and not always balance first time. I've had tyres fitted by a specialist tyre place I always use and sometimes I've had to go back to get them tweaked as I've had a wheel vibration at 70-80mph. They've been balanced perfectly on the machine, but when they go onto the car, and travelling at higher speed, they are different. I don't know if it's because the machines these days balance the wheel at low speed which means they aren't quite right at higher speeds. I don't suppose the fitters take the cars out for a blat up the nearest dual-carriageway at 70mph to test them - I suspect you wouldn't want them to either! lol

Sounds like a balancing issue all right. Could be either they're not balanced or in my case recently over weighted. This is where the tyre fitter when balancing the wheel added extra weights to the original weights to get it balanced resulting in an over weighted wheel. The symptoms of this are very similar to it not being balanced at all.

It's quite common to have to take wheels back for re-balancing, it's not always a sign of a bad fitter, the test comes when you go back and they are happy to do it again without any hassle or extra cost.

I have an issue with this, i've had mine balanced twice and still get vibration at higher speeds

the weights thing has got me thinking (dangerous I know ) but when my alloys were reburbished I think some of the weights were removed and I'm wondering how to go about replacing these

is it something the fitter should do when balancing the wheel if needed?

The weights are what balances the wheel. These will be added by the fitter. In my case they kept the old weights on and kept adding weights until it was balanced. When balancing a wheel all the old weights should be removed first.
