Default Jeremy Clarkson and his comments

Why does Jeremy Clarkson always make stupid comments?

His latest faux par was to say that if he had time to under take someone on the motorway, then they had the time to move over. I suppose he has a point, but at what point does he deem this safe?

OK, we've probably all done this at sometime or another when you get some idiot who thinks that the inside lane on the motorway is for 50mph; middle lane for 60mph and outside lane for 70mph. Private policing of the motorway I call it. But most of my experiences of undertaking is the idiot who wants to be one car length better off. Normally pushing their way back in line causing everybody behind them to apply their brakes, leading to the domino effect.

Clarkson's comment came after the announcement that you 'could' in theory go to prison for undertaking (if they weren't so damned full, but don't get me started on that). Damned right in my eyes. But they should first concentrate on re-educating the lane hoggers in the first place that cause undertaking.

Opinions and views as usual please.

I think undertaking should be made legal. You will never educate people to use the left hand lane, they get it in their heads that 60/70mph in the right hand lane is fine although nothing is in the other two lanes.

I persoanlly stay in the left hand lane all the time until I need to use the other 2 lanes, to me that is sensible driving.

But after spending alot of time in America, where you can legally undertake, it just works. All the lanes flow freely.

It's like saying - the no speed limit works in Germany, people keep to the right to let the faster cars passed'. Can you imagine removing the speed limit on our motorways overnight! Put it this way I wouldn't want to be a Paramedic, Police traffic officer, Highways Agency officer, or Firefighter on that night.

I think undertaking should be legalised and i will admit to doing it quite often dont get me wrong i dont tear along at silly speeds dodging in and out of traffic but if i come up on a car that is in a sleepy world of their own doing 65MPH in the middle or outside lane and the next lane is empty then i use it no need to slow down so we dont get the ripple effect and normally i dont think the person i have overtaken even notices !!!!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

It would not be mayem at all, you will always get the novelty factor for the first few days, but you may actually find that if it was legal, there would be less lane hopping.

People would just stay in the lane they are in and all 3/4 lanes would flow better instead of the outside lane being cloggeg up, the middle lane empty and the inside lane full of lorries.

    It would work.

If people would get the h3ll out of the middle lane there would be no need to undertake.

I admit that if the motorway is clear I will sometimes drive in the middle lane to avoid 'tram-lining' in lane 1, however, once I see some lights behind me I pull over.

Mind you, I have noted that a lot of BMW drivers stick solely to lane 3 regardless of traffic volume in lanes 1 & 2.

I don't think legalising it is the answer at all. Stop lane hogging and you stop undertaking (well most of it ).
