    Default Potential DMF Issue

    Hi,

On various occasions when starting up i can hear a loud scraping noise coming from the engine bay, when i depress the clutch it goes and occasionally comes back. My worry is that it`s the DMF on it`s way but not being a mechanic i`d like some advise. If it is what we looking at, i believe this is in the region of £500+ to get sorted out. The car was bought from a dealer 3 weeks ago and he`s been a right pain since buying it.

    Cheers,

    hi mate,

No slipping so far, i have 2 months warranty left RAC that it came with though i`m not expecting it to be the paper it`s written on or if they`ll honour it if it`s not gone yet? Car`s done 103k but no history (yes i know i shouldn`t have bought it), but now i do i love my veccy very much and going to get works done. It`s off for a full service tomorrow, £130 all in so fingers crossed my mechanic will also clean EGR and change boost hoses / get me a list of what needs doing. The dealer did put 4 new shocks and tyres on last week after 3 weeks of chasing him.

    Cheers,

Yep, it sounds like dmf is on it's way... just had mine done coz it was doing the same. (£450.00 part only) dmf and clutch plus labour. Done 20 miles and the new one it's already making noise

I spoke with a luk technician about the failure of dmfs within the warranty period and was told that a lot fail early because when there fitted garages dont lock the flywheel in place, thus when tightening of the clutch plate it puts undue stress on the internal rubber bush and weakens it. This is what then causes the rattle.

As fo the op's problem, it does sound like the dmf but unless its really rattling its tits of i wouldnt worry to much at the moment. I ran mine for over a year with it rattling and only changed it as my clutch failed..

    Hi Chaps,

It`s hit and miss at the moment, really noisy when with me and blinkin quiet when my mechanic is anywhere near the car! I`m going to get a quote anyway and see what it`ll be, in the mean time i have a case open with the local Trading Standards up there and they are looking into it all. Meanwhile i spoke to the RAC who are also interested in this dealer as he is proclaiming he is an RAC authorized dealer and they never heard of him! They suggest that`s it`s far too common for dealers to hide behind a big flag and do what they can to wriggle out these situations but i`ll persist and see what happens...

Ok update... Garage has come back and said yep it`s well on it`s way. Contacted warranty people, no chance with them, sent a legal threatening letter to the dealer who has agreed to pay half £420 towards it. Im going to have to bite the bullet and pay the other half, better than going to court etc and potentially loosing i guess. Soooo fingers crossed new DMF and clutch will be in and we`ll be looking good for a while... Once done should i sell this and look about for something different?

    Cheers,
