    Default Name that hole ??

Been poking about under my 1.9 CDTi 150 today and saw this.

    leak.jpg

Should that hole have some kind of pipe connected to it ? It seems to be dripping oil onto the drivers side axle.

    axle smaller.jpg

It then runs down to the damaged flexi joint.

Every now and again I get a load of smoke from under the car, but only for about 30 secs to 1 minute.
Could this be the oil hitting the flexi joint and burning off ?

    I'd like to know,

    1. What is the thing in the first pic ?
    2. Should it drip ?
    3. Should it be connected to anything ?

    Thanks guys.

    Helpful video, thanks.

Ok so it doesn't have anything connected to it and during an oil and filter change the video says to expect oil to come out of it.
The car has never dropped oil on my drive so will give it a wipe over and check it again soon to make sure it was only a 'spill' during the service.

    Thanks.

you are supposed to put a piece of pipe on it so the oil will run into a container and not on your drive or exhaust

Yeah I was thinking that would be a better idea. Messy sods..

Have wiped the worst off now and will take another look next weekend to see if any more has come out.

    Exactly what he's said...

I have a length of garden hose which I use to drain the oil filter at change time. Just loosen the filter until oil comes out of the hole. I think the filter part holds around a litre of oil on its own.

I had something similar to this after my service, the second O-Ring was nipped and was letting oil escape out of the drain tube, Remove cap and replace o_ring and you should be ok....

    Default

As already said............... the sealing ring/s have been damaged on replacing the oil filter housing cap allowing oil to pass out of the drain hole.
