    Default The professional register

Well guys thought I'd post up here with a heads up.
as of this month their has been a professional register produced to people within the vehicle trade

so that members of the public can see their registerd an what standard and also feel safe in the knowledge that the person/ business are upto date in their training and knowledge of current vehicles

this has been long over due in the trade.

too many people who are in qualified etc and now as vehicles become more and more complex you want to know its being tested properly

this also has benefit of reduced cost to customer as not just seeing a garage to throw parts it.

To keep on the register you need to achieve a certain number of training points over 3 years.

the aim being that in the future everyone is trained and registerd

a bit like gas safe/ corgi etc

Here's the link so you can search you local area.
    http://www.imiregister.org.uk/

hope this of use to someone

sorry mods if not correct section.

but perhaps it could be made a sticky. As this register is only going grow over the coming years.

Already out of date. The first one on this page closed over a year ago, maybe longer.

The IMI thing has been around for years, iirc you need to pay so much each year too, Rather than a one off payment.

IMI as an institute has been yes but the "professional register" only came into force this month

with an aim of changing the trade for the better.

you pay a subscription to the institute but the benefits to that are another reason

your name can only remain on the register if you reach a certain number of continuous development points
which is a achieved in various ways.

attending training courses and seminars etc

You can also gain a few point for reading various articles or watching technical videos but theses can only account for a little amount of points

im not saying it means everyone is going to be good etc

but it may give you an idea if a local garage is fully trained up on latest diagnostics etc to give them a try rather than somewhere that hasn't got any qualifications they do but of googling an throw some parts at it at your expense

i'm 200% sure that I had an IMI accreditation a couple of years ago, It was a freebee from work. Possibly not the same thing, However it sounds very similar, I didn't renew my membership as it didn't give me any benefits working for a company rather than on my own.
