Default Can 'spanner' light inidcate service over-due

    Hi,
My Vectra 1.8vvt (58 reg) has been due a service for a few weeks and as usual the 'insp' text came up on the trip-meter however due to work issues I couldn't get it into the garage straight away and after drivng with 'insp' coming on for a week to 10 days (around 700 miles) the engine electronics light (spanner) came on and has stayed on. Is this a warning that the service is late or is it a totally separate fault. Car was still running perfectly and fuel economy fine despite the light.
Local garage has now serviced the car and mentioned the light but said the error code wasn't one they recognised. This was 80,000 miles service and car has never had an error before.
    thanks,

The spanner indicates a real fault.

If the garage is unable to identify the code, maybe you should ask a more competent person, even someone on the forum living in your area.

What was the code? Did they reset it? has it come back on?

I didn't get the code, maybe should have probed them a little bit more. They reset it and the light hasn't come back on and car drives fine.

does the pedal test work on the 1.8vvt to get the code yourself?

I tried the brake / accelerator Ignition routine and it doesn't seem as if any code is stored, probably removed during the reset? . I think I will just have to keep an eye on things and hopefully it won't come on again.
