    Default 2.0DTI engine temp

Hoping someone can shed some light on a problem with my misses Vectra c 2.0DTI,
She’s been telling me it’s using lots of fuel more than my 2.2DTI’s using. I get around 700 milesto a full tank and to be fair I’m really happy but her MPG is really low. I drove hers for about 100 miles on Sunday and the temperature gauge didn’t ever reach 80 fluctuated between 70 and just under 80.
So I’m thinking its the thermostat is stuck open so not letting the engine get warm enough or a dodgy temp switch
Am i right in thinking that if the ecu sees a low engine temperature it will use more fuel?

It will use more just not sure how much! Good place to start. Car will be in cold running mode for much longer so on short journeys especially, it will use more.

called my local VX dealer today and got told I can only get the complete thermostat with housing £40+VAT, so tried Partco after and got told I can buy just the thermostat for £8.32 inc VAT or complete one with housing for £45 inc VAT, Stripped the thermostat off the car tonight to check it and tried boiling water over it and it does nothing so it is goosed, quick question is it best to replace the whole thing like VX dealer says or just replace the core from partco??
