Default Z32SE Timing Kit Replacement Completed

    Hi All
Just a quick update on the service list.
I fitted the timing belt kit at the weekend. The strip down went very well with no drama's or issues.
When I fitted the new kit I had headaches with too much slack in the belt. I then took stock and logically went through it all. The outcome was I removed the new tensioner/pulley kit and when comparing to the original one I had removed it was different! Same tensioner and pulley but the mount that they fit to was slightly different. I swapped over the new pulley and tensioner to the old mount, refitted it and it all went well.

Now having issues with misfires since replacing the plugs (I ran it with no issues after the belt change) see the help forum for more info

The tensioner issue is because the engine in the Vectra/ Signum is a Z32 where as you are always refering to the Y32 which is from the Omega, generally the same engine but not completely.

Bit of history, the reason Vxl changed the belt changes on the V6 from 80 to 40k was not due to belt failure but due to tensioner failure, they updated the tensioner and changed the back plate on the X25 and X30 V6's, a simple improvement to the older V6's is to buy the new tensioners and swap over with the old back plate, exactly what you have done.

Thanks for that - most informative. The Gates kit I used was quoted as for a Z32SE and had the part number K015453XS. I've just checked the Gates website, this isnt the one for the Z32SE. The kit I needed was K035453XS. That'll teach me to trust the motor factor!!

How difficult was it to set the tension in all the various sections of the belt? I've read the instructions for the Sealey Z32SE timing belt tool set and it looks complicated! :-o Paul

Hi Paul, no real drama's. I fitted the belt, put the tension specified on the tensioner, set the eccentric upper pulley as specified. Next I rotated the engine two full rotations, then adjusted the eccentric upper pulley again to bring the rear bank in time with the front bank, rotated twice again, checked tensioner and both banks of cams, probably did two adjustments on each and then rotated the engine 2 rotations a further 3 times to get consistency in the timing and tension. Job done. Defo use the cam locking tools as even though they do not spring apart when the old belt comes off, they do move when you are installing the new belt. I did not use a crank locking tool or cam timing tools, there are marks on the crank and cams so I was confident to do it by eye.
