    Engine : 1.8 16v Z18XE

Default is it possible to get more power out of a 1.8

just been thinkin, and since i won`t be goin back to diesel any time soon, (my astra sri 1.9 cdti 150 put me off, turned into a money pit) and i now own my 1.8 non vvt sri estate after the astra went, i was thinkin can i get any more power out of it, and what would i have to do and how much would it cost, i`m not after anythin daft, i mean its already around the 120bhp mark anyway standard and is pretty quick, ok not as quick as my astra once was, that was boxed and had 200 bhp on tap till i sold the box, but i`m thinkin is it actual possible to do anythin to the engine at all, and a k&n air filter might only give 2-4 bhp

Remaps will see a 15bhp increase typically although anything is possible with money. Turbo/Supercharging.

As Gaz said, it's whatever your wallet will stretch to. Dbilas make a bolt on turbo kit for the Z18XE, A lot of the Corsa C guys with 1.8s go for Piper cams and a decent inlet manifold/air filter combination. Turbo kits would see you over 200bhp and cams with a remap should see 165-170bhp.

Funnily enough I was thinking of the Corsa C's with the 1.8's.

It would be worth costing the total price of getting a 1.8 to ~170hp, (mods, fitting, insurance, fuel etc) vs getting a 2.0t estate out of the box, which would give 170ish hp on a standard insurance policy, and should be more economic than a cammed up 1.8.

I bet the cost to change would end up in favour of the 2.0t.

Depends how good you are with the spanners. You get a 4 branch cat less manifold that would release a good few bhp, but you'd need to replace it come mot time, or go for the sports cat option which is much more expensive. Remaps give around 8bhp for £300. Get a Dry foam cone filter from HKS. Remove the centre box from the exhaust would help too. Take the throttle body off, give it a good clean and even try polishing it up might help too. As gaz said look on the corsa forums, they will have done most things as the z18xe has been around for years. Of course you could stick a 50bhp N0s kit on it, not cheap to refill the bottle, but £ for £ a cheap modification.

what do these sound like without a centre box? I would be concerned about the motorway noise or drone? I ask because I was thinking of leaving it out on the wife's vec when i chuck on her irmscher quads..

Just a thought the precat? Straight of the manifold or is that the cat? could it not t have its guts knocked out to give some power? Save on buying a 4 branch

I think it would fail an MOT due to emissions being a bit high, let alone there being an emissions light on too.
