Thread: Z19DTH Smokes on start up and idle only.

    Default Z19DTH Smokes on start up and idle only.

    Guys,
    My Z19DTH smokes a little on start up and sometimes on idle and also sounds a bit like diesel knock when it does it. The smoke was only noticed after the DPF removal and remap but the knock was present before removing the DPF and remapping, so its nothing to do with the remap. The instant consumption rises to 0.2g/h when it does it, but its not all the time. It can be ok one day and the next day it will do it every time you pull up at traffic lights etc.
    DPF removed and mapped out
    EGR blanked and mapped out
    No spanner or engine light on
    No fault codes present either
    Data log done when the problem was there but nothing detected.
    I'm now at a bit of a loss with this one, so any advice would be great.

    Inlet manifold was fitted new about 6 months ago, swirl bar is moving and seemed clean when I blanked off the EGR valve.

    you could try replacing the injector seals, I did this on a customers car and the smoking reduced quite a bit

    There is no sign of any leaks around the injectors. They may be coming out to be tested at which point I will fit new copper seals. The injector deviations were higher than normal but its not always that way. The fault appears to be triggered by something else which increases the deviations.

    Where abouts is it coming from, mine does this from the turbo area and I have slight carbon build up on the inlet pipe, been too lazy to strip however as busy fixing other things

    Guys,

    Just found this for information. This was done a tick over when the engine was up to normal temperature and the engine was knocking and smoking at the same time.

    looks like you have a problem with injector 1 I think that the tollerance can be +/-3

    With figures like that could be the knock sensor playing up sending duff info to the ecu and causing over fueling hence the smoke and knocking noise
