    Default Towbar!

I'm looking at getting a towbar for the Veccy to tow a car trailer. What are people's experiences with towing with the Veccy? I once had a scary fishtailing experience whilst towing a car trailer and just wonder how the Vec handles with one? Also, I've posted a wanted ad up, but if anyone has a towbar they want to sell then please PM me.

I tow quite a few things with my Vectra. From box trailers to a 17ft speed boat with a 65hp engine on the back. Make sure the outfit is correctly balanced and do not exceed the nose weight or Maximum Towing Weight recommended in the handbook.

Any to avoid? There are quite a few makes out there as I've now realised! Trying to work out which ones need the module/relay too!?

Have a look in the eBay section. I've got a nearly new Witter fixed hitch with brand new boxed plug & play electrics. Ideal set up

Due to it's long wheelbase the Vectra a is stable tow car. As with most petrol cars, low rpm torque might be a concern if towing heavy load. Diesel is way better in this respect, auto tranny converting torque also helps (but at a higher fuel cost )

Just to put one thing right: Fishtailing is due to bad balance on trailer - not the towing car - as long as we're talking average passenger cars. Twin axle trailers are more stable overall, but that's no surprise

Most common reason is to low tongue weight, not least on boat trailers. Boats with engines in the rear need pretty long chassis trailers to sit far enough forward, to put sufficient load on the car.
Specs for individual car/towbar should be respected but rule of tumb is "never less than 50 kg."

BTW proper tyre pressure (higher than you'd think) stops the trailer from bouncing.
