    Default front lights

hi guys,i have a 54 plate 2.2 direct vectra, recently i had a problem when i turned the lights on,for a while my front drivers side main beam sometimes just flickered and come on full if i turned them off and back on this went on for abt 2 weeks then it didnt work at all,so i replaced the internal light switch unit....still nothing on the drivers side...so im wondering if its the ballast unit or the bulb itself...i have blue xenon bulbs and have been quoted £90 per bulb, and if i change 1 i will need to change them both in case 1 is brighter.....to me this is a garage job because i cannot get my hand behind the lights to remove the bulb to check it....could it be the light ballast and if so how do i check it...otherwise its gonna be pretty expensive if i just get bits and change them until the problem is rectified.....and ive been quoted £100 to remove the bumper and light to change the bulbs...total £280 to change a bulb...any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

Bumper removal is quite easy - see info in the how2 section. To be quoted £100 is ridiculous.

To eliminate ballast problems, then you'll need to swap bulbs or ballasts over to see if the fault occurs on the other side instead.

You'll probably find bulbs on ebay a lot cheaper than you've already been quoted. They can be bought individually, but you might find the performance of the remaining good bulb has dropped off and isn't as good as the new bulb fitted.
