Post I should have bought a Honda :(

I've had my estate a year now and I do love it, but I did originally consider a Honda Accord, however the insurance was nearly double and I needed an extra £1000 to get one with similar miles to my Vec. In 12 months tho it's had

Thermostat (fitted by garage under warranty)
Radiator (fitted by garage under warranty)
    Glow Plugs
    Starter Motor
    EGR Cooler
    Battery
Timing Belt (done a little early, but would still need doing anyway)
Water Pump (precautionary, until he got it out and told me it was almost at the end of it's life anyway)
Front Discs and Pads (wear & tear i suppose)
Rear Discs and pads (wear & tear I suppose)

And if you add in the extras I got
    Led footlights
    Sports Grille
    Roof Spoiler
    Carpet mats
Rubber mats (seen as my carpets are covered in mud from works compound)

Then I've almost paid the extra anyway, however I do love the Vec and I do keep saying that everytime somethings gone wrong It'll last past my ownership, but then I folded the mirror back out the other day and the glass fell out (luckily I caught it and glued it back in), I've just fitted new heater resistor today after 1-3 stopped working and that stupid annoying bulb warning system is driving me crazy, after changing several bulbs, checking the sockets and fittings and it still flashes on and off and the mpg is always 45ish, despite my loong run to Brighton and France last month.

I'm beginning to think I have no luck with cars, but everyone else says it's cos I keep buying Vaux's

    Is it just me?
Is there anything else to go wrong

Sounds more like you should have bought a 2.0T and not a diesel, they don't have glow plugs, EGR valves, or timing belts, and the water pump nearly always lasts the life of the car.

Not on Honda's you don't, although the Accord timing chains are expensive to change

wish I could have found a DTI like my Astra was, seem to be a better engine.

i forgot both front drop links, rear wheel bearing and I also had to remove the rear windows alarm fuse after it kept going off, towbar would have been required on any car i bought.

Hoping the next 12 months is not so expensive & I think I need to investigate the mpg more, 45 is crap for a diesel, especially on a long run when others are getting 50+

lets be fair, the car must be some 8 years old! Most of that list is wear and tear.
My good lady had an Avensis which had batter, alternator, rear suspension arms etc - This being a Toyota and famed for reliability yet having the same as yours but at an earlier age.

Luck of the draw my friend with any car.

The accords are lovely though to be fair... I looked at them before the vec but they hold there money well!

2.2 diesel is a great engine and the interior in the executive models is lovely

Not sure what you mean by having no luck with cars. You seem to count servicing as a minus point??? The fan was your fault for not cleaning out the scuttle not the cars. Your car is 8 years old minimum so you would expect things to break or need replacing. Are you saying a Honda does not need servicing or wear and tear items replaced at 8 years old?
