I test drove it at the Vauxhall Performance Center - 888 Engineering in Banbury.

It had just been delivered back from Germany where it was doing speed trials. They were trying to break the 300 kph barrier with it.. Which is why it doesnt have wing mirrors in the picture. They were 'disappointed' as it only achieved 176 mph !!..... so back to the drawing board for more power....

I 'drove' it down the lanes at the back of 888, so to avoid regular traffic.

With the sports button 'off' it has 270 bhp... and is barely noticable against a standard VXR... With the sports button 'on' it has 340 bhp and 500NM torque........ and boy oh boy.... it makes you want one there and then....

We did a 0-60mph test, and when I looked at the speedo, it was three figures... not 60mph.... jeeze.... oops.... its quick !!

Was the true figure 176, I though the mag said 186 or is that just wishfull thinking. I recon the aim was to brealk the 200mph bit. need 450 for that I recon.

Also I would really be surprise to see only 500nm, not questioning what you've been told, just think the Nm was larger than that. The 300bhp has just under 400lb ft, I recon they where being conservative. After some discussions with people in the know the car was wheeling spinning in 4th gear and had to be de-tunes to 340bhp. I recon this engine will deliver nearly 400bhp and just laugh at it. perhaps some mods may be needed !! but easy enough. And yes I 4 wheel drive will be needed. Just think what the 3.6 litre version could do!!!!
