Check you spare wheel well for water stagnating there, mate.

Have done dude, bone dry. That was my thought too because it does smell a bit like stagnant water.

Also for the price of it stick a new pollen filter in just in case.

Will get another one in the week yup. It looked a bit grubby but was only changed September last year!

Sounds like you have stagnant water in there somewhere. Does it smell more with the heater on? On a hot day? Is the smell coming from the air vents if so which ones, screen dash or floor? Any roadkill heating up in the engine bay?

If it is a random smell, then maybe it's only coming on when certain air vents are opened, might have a dead mouse in the air vents somewhere?

It doesn't smell more with the heater on or A/C on or off. One thing that does point to water somewhere is I noticed it when I turned right on quite a quick flowing roundabout which suggests water sloshing about. It seems to come from the central dash vents but I've not had the blowers on other positions to find out. I hit a fox a couple of weeks ago but that only really smashed some more splitter, sounds delightful but it didn't 'spatter' anywhere.

what about screen wash i know my other halfs zafira sceenwash stunk.. some screenwashes dont like to be mixed apparently

Screen washer sounds a good easy one to check, but wouldn't the smell appear only when you washed the window? I have a smelly screen wash additive and can't smell it unless the washers are on. Just bung your beak over the filler tube and get a lungful! If you're still upright, fair do's, if you're on your back on the floor, time to get the calgon out lol!

oh man this stunk really badly and made me gag, we had to drain and flush it all out it was that bad lol

Good tip. When I bought the Porsche - it had been sitting with screenwash in for about a year the bloke reckoned as he only ever used it in the dry - and it was like a smell between sick and rotten eggs... Took the bottle off - bleached it and filled and all was perfect.. Defo worth a check.
