    Default Sidelights LED Workaround

Ok, so we're all well aware of the problems that arise when fitting LED equivalents as alternatives to standard incandescent bulbs in the sidelights. It doesn't matter what the claims, they will always pulse with the lamp check system and throw up random bulb failure warnings.

The pulsing I can live with as it's almost invisible in normal daylight and I've had them pass MoT testing like that anyway.

So, getting to the annoying problem of random failure warnings:

A few weeks back I got hold of a couple of 'in-line resistor fitted' lamp holders... from what I was told, specifically desgined to deal with the LED problem. Needless to say I was offered them as they proved to make no difference at all.

The approach I have taken however, is to cut away the two bulb holders and 'soft wire' them to the existing sidelight wiring (for the moment), thus giving me 4 sidelights - 1 LED and 1 W5W per side. The redundant W5W units being tape protected and tucked away, but providing the required resistance to keep the lamp check system happy.

So far, so good... all is working well, no warnings, nice bright white LED sidies to match the HIDs.

Assuming all remains well I may just sort out a nice little How2 (with pics) sometime soon

I did this with my old vectra c but with the GSI i just got a spare set of side light bulb holders and wired them to the fuse box so they came on with the ignition this way get no errors or flickering

I soldered in resistors on parallel too bulb an I never get bulb warning up

55ohm 5 watt resistors (22&33 ohm soldered together)

or a 47 ohm 7 watt resistor also works

If I fit resistors inline to my sidelights will this stop the pulsing when they are off?
