    Default Dilemma

Ok we 'suspect' the DMF has stated to play up - drives fine but a little rattle when press clutch in and out - I know it could still go for miles like it, BUT what I want to know is it worth doing on a 54 plate? or do we sell it on at a cheaper price?

also if we had it done and renewed the cambelt would it be bk to being a reliable car or is there othe big jobs lurking around the corner?

your opinion are mych appreciated x

    Hi Sarah,

What mileage has the car done?

You have the 8v CDTI so you have no worries re the inlet etc.

DMF can be a 'standard' issue on any CDTI - so really there is nothing to say you wont get a DMF issue shoudl you sell on the car and buy another.

If its only just rattling on press / release of the clutch - they can litrally last 10's of K's like that. So - you dont HAVE to do it straight away. You need to budget about £800 for the DMF and 4 piece clutch kit supplied and fitted..

Any other known faults with the car?

well its done 106k ... thermostat needs doing.. it still has the issue with the battery light coming on all time (long story but had 2 new alternators fitted last year within a 8 weeks of each other and that was 8 months ago - alternator fine, and new battery, volts are fine, done about 3k since start of the light - so its the wire) glow plugs, but have bought 2 yesterday and will get the other 2 next week, no radio as we werent givien the passcode from The Car Shop when we bought the car 3 n half yrs ago and the battery obv got disconnected, and as you know thinking about changing cambelt etc

I heard that the cat needs changing, is that right?

on the plus side it had 2x anti roll bar's fitted yesterday as there was excessive play in joints.. and its got 12 months MOT (passed today) - but I love the car, just worried IF we pay all this money - is it worth it?

I also seen on a review site that there is issue's with manifolds, or is that not the case in the 120's?

    OK See what you mean.

Thermostat is a common fault, more of a fiddle to change on the 120's as opposed to the 150's. They are circa £55 for the part trade from VX.
Glow plugs - one thing I will say is DO NOT fit eBay cheapies. The will break / snap and then its a head off job!.

Your battery light sounds odd!. If you are getting a good charge and the battery isnt failing, certainly sounds like the alternator isnt at fault.

Have you had a diag check on the car for all present and non present fault codes?

re the CAT - prob means DPF as yours is an estate, and if its getting clogged - you first want to try a forced regen - but would need ot see what the saturation readings are first.

dmf around £600 all in to replace, thermostat another £100 ish then the issue of the constant battery light... personally i'd trade it in for something newer with less miles.

yes had it plugged in, only 2 codes came up:

P0621-01 Generator lamp "L" control circuit malfunction
    P0380-08 Glow device general error

we got the glow plugs from Euro car Parts

DPF seems fine, I try and take it for runs to see my family 80 miles away.
