Default VVT dragging it's butt - Updated rear springs or eibach's all round?

    Hi

    I have a standard 2008 Vectra C 1.8VVT 5dr hatch with about 45k miles.

I've just bought an Atera DL3 towbar mounted bike carrier with fourth bike adapter (which is a really nice bit of kit) to carry 4x adult mountain bikes. With the carrier fitted and loaded up with the bikes, the car is really dragging it's butt on the Tarmac with the front wheels feeling like they're bouncing from the weight on the back - and that's before I add any passengers and luggage etc...

I understand the nose weight for the car is 75kg. I've weighed all the bikes and the carrier and they add up to near as damn it 75kg so I can't say it's grossly overloaded.

I've read other threads and considered fitting some coil rubbers but I think I'm really after a more permanent solution rather than having to keep fitting then taking them off every weekend...

One thread mentioned updated Vauxhall rear springs, which apparently came standard if you opted for a factory fitted towbar - part number 93185774...?

Other threads talking about similar issues when towing caravans seem to suggest fitting Eibach's all around - although I understand that these will lower the Sri suspension by a further 15mm which I wonder might end up making a bad situation even worse?

I'd be really most grateful to hear from anyone who has had the same sort of experience and to find out how they resolved it.

    Thanks
    Rob

I have fitted the rubber dohnuts into my rear springs as I often tow trailers and found that it stiffens the suspension up slightly at the back and helps keep the ride height. I have fitted them to several cars in the past with no known ill effects.

You could also consider buying springs classed as Heavy Duty often sold by people specialising in towing equipment, OR look for a Vectra with a heavier rear axle weight and the springs will be stiffer be design possibly estate springs.

Thanks very much for your reply Ben50n - when you've used the doughnuts have you kept fitting and removing them each time you towed or just left hm in?

    regards

Just fit and forget! You fit the dohnut into the middle of the spring and then they are locked into place when you put the weight back onto the wheels.

Only on one car did the dohnuts ever work themselves down to the bottom of the spring.

Most popular make was Grayston, but sure others are now available. You need to measure the coil gap and this determines the size you need to buy. I got my current set second hand on Ebay.

Thanks again Ben50n -I think I'll give them a go before I do anything a bit more involved.
