took the misses and little'un to the beach last sunday, did 51 miles there and the same back.CC on at 70-8-mph and was getting 59.7MPG and 62MPG on the way home as it was downhill.

    I get 40-41MPG around town

Nearly forgot to mention that i only started getting those figures after i cleaned my throttle body and scraped about a ton of soot from the manafold where the TB sits

I was going to put up a similar thread, but around town in the cdti 3rd gear seems to be the best for the highest instant mpg, to me it sound like its in the wrong gear at 30mph and usually put it in 5th on the 2.2, but the MPG has started to rise after doing this, keeping it in the 1800-2000 region rather then into a higher gear...

Not sure if this is right driving style for this car, but I'm open to other suggestions?

My average mpg has recently increased from a shocking 39mpg to 45mpg average with new thermostat and flexi pipe. My inlet manifold is goosed so I am loosing about 5mpg there, so I am told.

my thermostat is goosed, heater does get nice and warm but needle only moves in standing traffic, but its the comparative mpg i'm not happy with
i was hoping for nearer 50 mpg on a good run

At 80 its not gonna be efficient lol. If you could sit at 55mph all the way there I bet you'd see gains...

My cdti 150 averages 55mpg atm, mixed town and b road (b road is usually 45mph on cruise)...but as its broken, laggy and keeps going limp I'm expecting better mpg than that if I can fix it.

Edit - Replace the stat lol, you'll see much better mpg just doing that!

Plenty of real life consumption figures here:

    http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overvi...ml?powerunit=2

Edit: Figures on the site are "liters consumed per 100 km"

    Multiply by 2.8 to get mpg (eg. 6.6 L = 43 mpg)

Step 1: get the stat replaced.

Step 2: if you're after high mpg on a run, put the needle on 60 and hit the cruise... the actual speed will be around 56 (but can be checked using a GPS with speed display). Even mapped you should notice a decent improvement.

Step 3: Don't forget to have fun now and then.... 60 all the time may be good on fuel, but it gets boring.
