    Default 1.9 CDTi

Its been a while since these mean machines have been launched, and today they are well established on the market.
The 150 BHP is an excellent performer, but I would like to know how did they turn out in terms of reliability?
What is the usual milage u can expect to get out of this beauties.
Is the turbo failure regular thing, does the electronics go wild.
And finally, compared to the 2.2 DTI, which one is more reliable.

I disagree, here is my diesel history.

X plate 2.2 DTi SRi - New engine at 54000 miles (OK maybe a one off)
Y plate 2.2 DTi SRi - Other than a water hose, no engine problems in 35000 miles.

04 Reg 1.9 CDTi 150 (The 2nd ever built at Elsmere port) Engine perfect in 64,000 miles

06 Reg 1.9 CDTi 150 26,000 miles and no engine problems to report.

So in my opinion, they are both as reliable as each other. If you talking refinement and drivability, the 1.9 wins everytime.

I think it's difficult to compare to the old 2.2 DTI on reliability without any hard numbers on number of faults per 1000 cars and cost to fix.

However, I do know mines reached 37k miles with no faults (yet!) and turns in about 50mpg. Most people seem to get less than less, especially if it is an estate, has an autobox or the later cars with the particulate filter. Expect to get 40-45mpg unless you're very lucky.

There's a lot of people who've suffered problems with the Dual Mass Flywheel (expensive) and Swirl Valves (expensive). Turbos can go too (very expensive). Fuel pumps and injectors can go too (stupidly expensive).

Yep, they're great when you've been lucky (touches wood), but can get very expensive to fix.

I would imagine that the average mileage of the oldest of these cars is only 30-40k (launched in 2004), so it'll be at least another year or so before we really know how often they go wrong.

Personally, I'm feeling a little nervous reading all these scare stories here and I'm tempted to swap for a 2.2 petrol when the warranty expires in November.
I figure I can live with 15-20mpg less if the thing doesn't go wrong often and is cheap(er) to fix...

    My 1.9 CDTi's...

    Vectra C 1.9 CDTi 150bhp mapped to 200bhp - 24k trouble free miles
Astra 888 mapped to quite a bit over 200bhp - 12k trouble free miles

So mine have been more 'stressed' than some I suppose but superb engine IMO.

Some say Vx mechanics are not too keen on CDTi's. Read into that what you will.
