    Red face Next Vectra...

Hi peeps im currently driving a vectra 1.8 ls 2002 YAWN ive decided to upgrade to EITHER 2006-2008 1.9 CDTi SRi or 1.8i VVT SRi.. NOW so far ive found decent cdti's hard to come by in my price range but ive seen some VERY nice vvt sris within my price range... Basically id like some feedback on the pros and cons of both if possible people.. having test driven both i sway to the cdti for economy but i like the way the petrol sri drives... STUCK.COM Please feel free to comment on pros and cons. Thanks

CDTi is more economical and ****** torquey, but also more problematic, lots of issues, some pretty expensive, vvti's seem to be more reliable, quick enough and good for 40 mpg or thereabout.

I've got a 1.8vvt and its not what I call quick, 10.5 to 60 Very slow and mpg not that good. I just do town driving as a rule and taking it easy im gettin 26.4mpg was getting 25mpg from my 325 bm. For £20 I get 80-90miles. Even on a motorway at 70/80 its not that good either again my bm was just as good and a lot quicker. I'd say slow and not the best on fuel. I'd look out for a 2.0T not much diff in fuel. If I was to buy again id get a 2.0t or preface gsi which I was tempted by but fuel costs put me off wish i had got the gsi now.

Can your budget not stretch to a 2 litre turbo as try are relatively cheap and good alround performance and not far off a 1.8 on a run with the 6speed gearbox I've had a vvti and turbos are much faster

all depends on your mileage and driving.

if town driving or low annual mileage then go for the 1.8, get a lot newer car for the money. If high annual mileage and long runs then get the diesel and certainly go for a 2008 model where issues have been resolved. I have two (08 and 58 plate) with no issues whatsoever. Certainly the least problematic cars I have ever owned. Remapped diesel will also come close to 2.0 turbo on performance but give you great economy - double that of the petrols. i'm running 700 miles between refills.

Hi guys ill try and answer most of the questions and thanks for the replies.. My mileage is between 4-6k per year at a push and my budget actually stretches a lot further than a vectra but dont ask why i just want another but sporty/quicker on than my 1,8 ls lol.. Trying to get a decent cdti or 2.0T down in poole is like trying to find rocking horse s**t.. I thought my dreams had been answered as in southampton i found a 2.0T in great nick in the pics.. went to see it and the engine cover was off he couldnt start it as he was waiting on a part and the block looked like it had been left in the rain for a year as it was grey and smudged if that makes sense.. as much as my head was saying BUY IT BUY IT my heart was saying WALK AWAY THIS IS GOING TO GIVE YOU MAJOR PROBLEMS.. Now i may have been totally wrong about it and ill never know but im no mechanic but a 6 yr old engine block surely shouldnt look like that.. just wished i took pics..
