    Default replacing door speakers

Im looking to replace standard speakers soon to aftermarkets that can handle a bit more power but want to keep the standard head unit. Would i get away with 2x sets of 6.5" components and no subs or would i get no bass? I dont want it realy loud but enough to cope with me turning the volume and not sounding crap?

The standard head unit won't be man enough to drive aftermarket speakers. It's barely powerful enough to drive the standard speakers in all honesty (iirc a standard CD30 is about 7wRMS per channel).

All that will happen is that you'll turn it up higher to get the speakers moving and it will end up overdriving the internal amplifier, leaving you with a horribly distorted sound.

You really should amplify any aftermarket speakers (unless you're going for simple co-axial 2 way direct OE replacements, in which case it's a bit pointless really). Components can give bass, but if that's all you're after then you're better off with a sub.

The radio determines how loud the sound is though, not the speakers. If you can't change the radio then you need to add an amplifier - speakers are just an output device.

Either go for an amp from the standard headunit or look at some componants that have a high sensitivity rating (around 90db+) the hertz dsk range are good for headunit power but nothing will beat amplifying the speakers

I've just fitted Pioneer head unit to standard speakers and the difference is amazing so i think you would be better off fitting amp to get best out of
standard speakers. What their max output is i don't know my HU is 4 x 50w and they seem to handle that HTH

Jees!! How loud do you want it?

I can crank my CD70 up and it's plenty loud enough without sounding distorted. Even if I crank up the bass setting to 12, the speakers can cope with it.

If i try to get a decent bit of bass out of my speakers and turn the stereo up a decnt amount it sounds terrible. Speakers cant cope with any bass at all! And mine is set and treble -1 and bass +4?

Don't forget MAX figures are useless, only pay attention to RMS wattage. Most headunits are about 17-25w RMS per channel
