Angry Snapped susp. spring on a two year old!!!

Hi, Whilst driving my 04 sri the off-side suspension coil spring snapped and the car came to rest on the wheel! It has gone back to the main dealer who is replace the spring under warranty. Can any-one tell me if this a common fault (the car has done 40k) and should both sides be replaced? as they are only going to replace the broken side.
    Regards Steve

The dealer should know better than to replace just the broken side. Both sides should be done m8.

I thught it would be common sense to replace both but it seems my main dealer lacks common sense and courtesy!! iIt had only been in two weeks previous because my partner said she could hear a strange noise, the tech. told her it was the sound of a normal diesel engine!!! (patronising prat!!)

I'm going to to give vauxhall uk a ring tommoz am and see what they've got to say about it before I go to pick the car up. I'll let you all know how I get on. Thanks for your help.
