    Default cutting out problem? read this

    Ever since ive had my car(oct 2011) theres been a problem that has got worse and worse as time went on.

    When the car had been stood outside overnight,or allowed to get cold it would it would keep cutting out about 5 seconds after starting it,anything below 4 degrees and it was a nightmare.It would do it about 4/5 times and then the spanner light would come on and i was in limp mode.I could hear the fuel pump priming and then it would cut out and then start again and then cut out.I had all the light comming on the dash after the engine had cut out.It became dangerous as it would cut out when im driving without warning!

    I hooked it up to my diagnostic softerware and i had all sort of fault codes ranging from the ECU,CIM to ABS which i was so worried that it was the ECU

    The thing that puzzled me was that it only did it when it was cold,it was fine in the wet and when i did manage to get it to drive for about 10 mins i could turn it off and then on again and it was fine.I checked everything i could think of,water leaking onto the ecu,air leaks,injector issues,EGR,MAP sensor,MAS sensor but nothing seemed to sure it

    Untill.............

    Last monday when me and my mate on here were looking over my car he noticed one of the relays(yellow one) in the fuse box under the bonnet wasnt seated correctly.A push and a click and its all fixed:-) i had to wait untill today to be sure but its 2.5 degrees outside and its running perfect

    I cant believe how 1 little thing could cause so many problems and worry me so much.

    Anyway to anybody who has any cutting out issues i would just check to see if its the same problem i had

    Glad you sorted it mate, I know from experience as well how frustrating it is, I bet people would rid of the car with issues like that and no mechanic or dealer could spot. good for you mate, I bet you're relieved

    it was only coz my mate noticed it that the problem was fixed.Ive looked before at the relays(had main relay fault code) and didnt even notice it.My mate was stood at the side of the car so noticed the gap.

    I dread to think how much it would fo cost me taking it to a garage

    Garage would have changed every part connected with the problem, they could have even sold you an ECU, injectors, EGR. fuel pump the list of parts is endless, god forbid...

    I know,its scarey aint it.I did look into a new ECU ect and the cost was stupidly high.

    I just hope that maybe somebody might read this and help them out

    Good for you and your mate in sorting it out.I've had similar problems,i know what it's like.What model is your Vectra?

    Sounds like the fuel pump relay.

    That would make sence then,when the fuel pump was priming(when it was cold) it would buzz for a second then cut out and then buzz again.Also the little yellow engine symbol would go off when the fuel pump stopped for a split second.

    I still dont quite understand why it only did it when it was cold and not wet?

    surely the moisture would effect it more than the cold?
