Default Vx corsa breather hose split ????

Evening guys, ok I'm after a little but if advice please. A friend of mine has a 59 plate 1.4 corsa and has had engine warning light issues for a while, a 'mechanic mate' of hers read the codes which unfortunately I don't know at this time, but he wiped all stored codes and happy motoring for a week then light comes back on car seems to idle roughly. tonight this said 'mechanic mate ' was going to replace the 02 sensor as per the codes but for some reason now has said ( and these are his words ) the cars drinking petrol and oil like we drink water and the breather hose has split. now I'm no mechanic, but why would a split breather hose cause this??? She's going to get a new hose from vx tomoz and wants me to fit it, ok no probs I said, no I'm guessing its a simple job, as for O2 sensor he said that can wait until he finds time to do it. I'd do this too but don't you need a proper tool for changing these?? So anyone shed any light on this and also advice for O2 sensor ( easy to fit or not) and also split breather hose (again how easy to fit and would this explain using oil etc) thanks y'all

Breather pipes splitting ate common on these.

using high fuel could be down to O2 without looking at fuel trims hard to say

2 mins job to fit pipe.

quick to fit O2 sensor will need either a O2 sensor socket.
or cut the loom an use a deep 22mm socket.

Theirs a small chance it may use oil if its using it a large rate it may have other problems.

o2 on corsa is easy enough to get to mate just get it hot an it'll be sound

That's a very common place for an oil leak on these engines, pull the plug out it it will be full of oil, the sensor needs replacing, £10 from a motor factor/ebay or maybe around £20 from vaux.
