    Default Astra Cabriolet anyone?

Does anyone know much about Astra Cabriolets? I fancy a summer toy and have a budget of about £3k. I have seen the edition 100 versions which would be within budget but I wondered what other nice editions they did? I would be open to the idea of a nice mk2 GTE but nice ones seem hard to come by. So what do you know about Astra soft tops, any to avoid? Any nice limited editions, any good owners clubs or sources of information out there?

    Thanks for your help!

MK4, they did a Linea Rossa special edition (not sure if it falls in your budget)

Had a few extras. Then you have the 2.0 Turbo Cabs, not a special edition, but a good car.

Couldn't agree with you more... the Astra G was/is a fantastic car and the equivalent coupe and cab were brilliant.

I had the coupe, and my missus has a 5 dr hatch... trying to convince her to px it for a cab! Go for a 2.2 or 2.0T. As for special editions: , editon 100, linea rossa or the SE2
Be careful with SE2, many of the coupes/cab are marked as SE2 in the log book, but SE2 are blue and have blue alcantara seat trim and SE2 17" alloys.

I'm off to check out autotrader and ebay... back in a bit!!!

So does anyone know any common problems to look out for? Are there any engines or variants to avoid for any reason? What trim levels did they do in them?

    Mine isn't goin anywhere lol.

PM replied Keith, there was only 2 Limited Editin cabby's, the Linea Rossa and Edition 100. There was never an SE cabby unfortunately.

Don't get too stuck on th idea of a Turbo, the 2.2 is a crackin engine and it doesn't take too much to make it a little better. I have fitted mine with the F23 gear box from the Zafira 2.2 which has the lower final drive. I lose about 8/10mph off the top end which is no big deal, but the in gear acceleration is improved in a big way, about the equivalent to an additional 15/20bhp. Through the gears now, it drives like the old GTE 16v's with close gears. I have also fitted a Courtenay lightened flywheel which is fantastic in the 2.2.

With the other work I have done, it is more than enough to keep up with a standard turbo to a out 80/90mph. Handling on the 2.2 also has the ends over the Turbo due to it being much lighter at the front end.

There are also alot more lower mileage unspoilt 2.2's out there.

I'm not too fussed about it being fast, whats the difference in insurance groups like between the different engines? Am I right inj saying the 1.8 is the smallest they did?
