    Default Another coolant loss

I seem to be losing a slight amount of coolant but can't see anywhere wet inside the engine bay? As others suggest it could be the water pump, can someone tell me where it is so I can have a look around the area. Z30DT.

Does your car smoke white smoke? If so your egr cooler might have internal leak. But let´s hope that`s NOT the case

No smoke at all. Also checked the Oil filler and dipstick and both are as you would expect.

Is there a damp patch under the front offside after a spell being parked up? If so, then like mine, your Vectra may have a tired radiator. Take a good look at the radiator from above and from under the front of the car, looking upward. See if there are any signs of weeping. It is not always easy to see, especially when the engine is up to temperature, because the coolant evaporates as fast as it leaks out. My radiator has corroded along the sides and is weeping quite slowly at the moment but I have it in mind to replace the radiator as soon as funds and time permit. Paul :-)

Have you opened the coolant header bottle when the engine is cold? (i.e. having left it overnight) - Is there a hissing when you open it when cold (i.e. pressure inside)?

I'll try it tomorrow morning but as far as I remember then yes there is slight pressure when I open it. Is that bad?

Noticed a small pool of water under the front of the car last night. Seemed to be more in the centre but right under the front bumper so looks like it could be radiator related. Will have a look around over the weekend.

It could point to a head gasket as its a sealed system the only way pressure can get in there is from the cylinders. But seeing your post above it might be leaking from the anciliaries - radiator/hose etc. rather than the engine drinking it. Good Luck - I really hope it's not a Head Gasket.

Noticed again tonight a small pool of water under the front bumper so guessing it's leaking from somewhere. Will get it looked at over the weekend.

I just discovered my area of coolant loss

yesterday the large hose at the bottom of the expansion tank gave way by rupturing and creating a gash in the pipe. Which I think this is where I've had a problem all along it just had to deteriorate, there is a sleeve type heat shield and it looked as if this cut into the pipe causing a defect. This then led to coolant going everywhere, however before this I was having to top up every 400 miles and had no evidence of a leak by pools on the floor

However with any sort of substantial leak a pressure test should reveal the true location and if you have a localised area you should hopefully be able to find it with little effort
