confused 2.2 Sri dti - what to look out for

    Hi guys,

I have recently parted with my 2.2 Sri, which I really liked. Due to the amount of miles I do, I'm going to pick up an Sri diesel instead and am heading to test one later (53 plate at a fair price).

Basically, I just wanted to ask the guys in the know exactly what I should be looking out for..?

I've always owned petrol cars, so am unsure of the pitfalls here.

    Many thanks,

    Rob.

hi,ive got one myself. love it. in my opinion this is the best, most reliable engine. it has timming chains, so listen for them rattling. pretty bullit proof, just make sure it starts ok from cold. check service history, regular oil service is essential. other than that id say go for it. many on here will say go for a 1.9 cdti, but from personal exsperiance id go 2.2dti anyday. economial, reliable, ok in performance aswell.

I expected many to say go for the 1.9, but this is the model that I wanted.

    Thanks for the input, fella.

    Cheers, bud.

A friend had said something about clutch/flywheel problems and it being an expensive problem. Is this a common fault?

the only down fall of the 2.2 dti would be the fuel pump if it goes its big money to replace , but i would go for the dti any day im on my 3rd vectra c dti i had 2 vectra b dti's and have a dti zafira
the bonous is as said above they have a timing chain which is a rare thing to give bother , mine has 189000 mile on it at the minute and going well

Very good engine and bulliet proof as already mentioned. I had the same engine in my vectra B... It had done over 235,000 miles before i got rid of it.
The only problems that I really experienced was problems starting when parking up hill and splitting vaccum pipes. Crank pulley also shattered but I suspect that this was due to age.

The only problem would be the crank auxillary drive pulley these are known to shear apart and then there is no engine cooling etc so id budget for that being done otherwise solid reliable engine as others have said
