    Quickest way to test glow plugs I use is volt meter and ohm meter.

    pull plug covers an out black lead to engine block an red on top of glow plug each plug should read under 1 ohm
    A dud will either show really high ohms or open

    then place red volt meter lead in plug and cycle ignition should see 12v showing that the circuit operates as it should.

    I use a deep quarter drive socket and ratchet. And never had any trouble.
    but need to be aware that their is possibility of glow plug breaking but best tip is get engine nice and warm and should be fine hope that's of some help

    Just so you know the halfords socket would probably only be penny's difference to go in store an pick one up.

    it would also save having to wait on postage

    I've only seen it done once. An it was probably more be side lad was rushing more than anything else I think.

    Mad day getting engine hot will help.

    using quarter drive helps too as cant transmit much force through a tiny ratchet.

    if in doubt just get some penetrating fluid on it an let it soak

    Yep, you just need to be very careful;

    Apply plusgas and soak, unscrew plug until it becomes tight, apply more plusgas, screw back in, unscrew again, and on and on.

    Each time you unscrew it will come a little further out until eventually it will be free. Sometimes carbon buildup around the tip will cause them to get stuck on removal, even though the entire thread is free. If this happens you just need to keep pulling squarely upwards, tap back in, pull up squarely again. Dont try to lever it because it will just snap instead. Patience and persistance is the key to this job...
