confused Vectra C 1.9 cdti starting issues plz help...............

Hi to all, so had real problems starting the car to the point where I'd kill the battery so now we've managed to figure out its the coolant temperature sensor so have disconnected it until I can get a new one and she starts loads better but now the cat light has come on when driving and my window wipers aren't working?? Weird I kno anyone know why that would be? Also because of disconnecting the sensor the fan is on constantly! If it wasn't needed for my job I wud leave it to sit till shops open tues :-/
any feedback would be greatly appreciated
    thanks

Mine is slow to start when cold but much better when the coolant sensor is disconnected. When replaced with a new part it made no difference. The car does a number of things differently when the sensor is unplugged. Doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is faulty if it starts better without it.

Let us know how you get on.

You could unplug, start, then plug it in before you leave?

That's good news then, I suspect my problem is the starter motor. Sounds like its spinning quick enough but they are known to go 'lazy' and require quite a few turns before firing up. Will get round to it when I can.

You've not mentioned whether or not you have trouble starting when the engine is hot or cold.
If you're still getting trouble with starting with a new temp sensor then you could be looking at glow plugs, starter motor or crankshaft sensor (+ others?).
So, for starters, when do you have starting trouble - cold/hot start?
Also, do you have any spanner/emissions lights still?

Hiya she is especially difficult when it's cold a bit better when it's warm but not majorly, am changing the heater plugs today (which look like hell to get at) and see if that improves! There's no warning lights, spanner or anything onli thing that's changed is window wipers have stopped working and cruise control has started working?!?!? Weird I know!
