That's my old Signum![]()
Hi celes,my car sounds exactly the same as your uploaded video, but mine isnt using alot of diesel,it averages 55 mpg town driving and over 70 on motorways, was yours bad on fuel
It was excellent on fuel which was the funny thing. The worse it ran, the better on fuel...I think it's because it was juddering (not enough fuel).
Do you think mine could be the same issue? Judders at 1500rpm in most gears but doesn't judder other than at those revs?
Would,nt have thought so simmo, mine is very erratic, sometimes it drives ok ish, also my engine as got the classic metallic sound to it between 800-1200 rpm which is a tell tale injector problem, taking it in to be sorted this week and will post the problem, what i cant understand is its great on fuel which one or two blocked injectors would do this but when you boot it the car feels quicker than before, strange but all will hopefully revealed this week.
Took car in this morning to diesel specialist and they cant find nothing wrong with it,no codes no nothing,to be fair my car is driving abit better but still getting crazy mpg,one of the mechanics said i was very lucky its doing that sort of mpg but why all of a sudden is it doing 25mpg more on the motorway, getting around 190 to 200 miles on 20 quids worth of diesel motorway driving.
Perhaps if one or more injector isn't firing, the better MPG might be explained by the fuel not entering the cylinder to be burned and the perceived better 'go' might be from the slightly increased pressure in the fuel rail due to 6 cylinders' fuel going in, but only 5 or 4 cylinders' worth being used?
Very much just a thought, but you never know...
Yes im still sure one of the injectors is blocked, but they said they are fine ,the car really pulls strong would it not be down on power if one or two injectors where partially blocked.
Purely threory of course, but perhaps if one cylinder is down on power, the other five might carry it assuming it's only an intermittant fault and the increased 'oomph' again from an increase in fuel rail pressure from the 'uninjected' fuel?
I suppose you could always use the same technique Mr China did on the recent Wheeler Dealers Range Rover show - removing the offending injector and mounting it to 'fire' into a plastic bottle to observe the consistency of it's operation. Bit long winded, but may help narrow down the fault.
