    Default 2.2 direct fuel pump

Need a continental fuel pump, siemens useless, even auction sites want £280 for it, think thats taking the p***, any ideas, would rather new one, diagnostic says fuel pressure system malfunction, gotta be the pump and not the regulator.
beware anyone buying 2.2 direct with siemens pump, your gonna have to change it at some point, you might not if you drive a 15 mph for the rest of the cars life.

What are your symptoms? If your car is stalling when stationary and the engine is hot or in traffic it's the regulator and if going high revs/speeds and going in limp mode it's the pump. The pump is that expensive. Seen some second hand ones on eBay for 150 ish but few and far between. Maybe going to some scrappies and trying to get one. Easy to take off and would not cost much.

    Lordish,

The symptoms you describe are what is happening to mine, cuts out with spanner light etc, won't start for a few minutes and then everything is fine for a week or so and then same thing happens. Can you expand a little on why it it might be the the regulator and not the pump? Is it easy to replace?
Thanks for your help and sorry if I have hijacked the thread.
    Lynchy.

recently did a signum at work that cut out half way through an MOT & wouldn't start until it had been left for best part of an hour .
this also turned out to be fuel pressure regulator .

When driving it will be fine as the air is cooling the engine. When you stop in traffic the engine will heat up and if the fuel regulator is faulty it will cut the fuel out do it stalls. It happened to mine here and there then happened all the time. I got mine for 100 pounds of eBay. 5 minute job to change. It's at the top if the engine. You can check the fuel pump at the same time. It's just to the right of the engine. It's quite small. If its seimans make then that's the crap one and will go eventually. If you have the continental one then its probably been changed before. Hope this helps.

Some interesting posts here as the one I have just bought just suddenly wouldn't start and the old owner was stumped so got rid, sounds like it wants to but not had a proper play yet...

I bought my 2.2 Direct not even reading up about its issues. Upon cleaning the engine up I noticed it had a new looking Continental pump and new (shiny looking) FPR. Guess you could call that lucky!
