Question Anyone know what a "SAFEGUARD" warning in info display means?

Switched the ignition on this morning on my 06 cdti 150 and got a warning on my info display reading "SAFEGAURD" , I haven't got a clue what it means although the car alarm did go off last night in the wind, don't know if this was linked!

I switched it off via the left roller switch on the sreering wheel but still a bit worried about the cause

    Any suggestions most welcome

Yep, check safe guard is an alarm fault ...If it was just safeguard it is probably telling you the alarm wasw activated.

Cheers Bainie, I feel a load has been lifted from my shoulders already, only got the car a few days ago and still at the getting to know it stage.

You know the way you've just traded in a crackin motor and think you're beginning to wonder why....lol

safeguard is the cars way of telling you that the alarm has been activated, whatever the cause. if your alarm/immobilliser light stays lit for about 10seconds without binking it indicates there is a problem with the alarm system itself, but as you suggested the alarm was triggered by the wind, when you lock the car the red light should blink fast for 10secs then blink at 15sec intervals, if so all is well
my vectra sri was showing safeguard every time i put the key in, even when i took it out and in again. but more oddly, the rear screen heater would not work while having this problem but it seems that the electronics are are self diagnostic which sorted everything out, eventually

You must have had really bad wind to set the alarm off, ive blasted some whoppers out myself but never enough to activate the alarm...

Nope. The "check safeguard" or "safeguard check" message (depending on which year handbook you look in) is informing you that there is a system error with the anti-theft alarm system.

That's not right. If the light blinks for the first 10 seconds, it's indicating door / bonnet / boot is open, or there is a system fault.

The light should come on and remain on for the first ten seconds, then start flashing.

All the above is mentioned in the car's handbook.

Check safeguard often means that someone has detatched the wires for the ultra sonic sensors near the rear view mirror...
very easy if you have upgrade or reverted back the "dome" / interior light or fitted a sunglasses holder.

Lower the plastic housing, held by 3 torx screws and check the connectors...

I had 'Safeguard check' for a while. Checked fuses.....OK. Alarm works OK so didn't do anything about it. Sat playing in the car the other day locked myself in (As you do) and pressed the safeguard button held it in till stopped flashing and now no more Safeguard message.
