Default My gear stick knob keeps springing off!

What's the best way to secure it in place? 4 times its come off now, always when driving! Was gonna super glue it on but thought a piece of blue tac might work just as well and it's not permanent ?!!

everyone has there own methods (it's a common issue, don't worry). Blue tac probably won't do it, you have a number of options:

    1. Glue it - Will make it a pain in the rear to get off if you ever want to switch it out, but it should still come off with brute force if you use the glue sparingly (a single dot or two on the shaft should do it).
    2. thicken the shaft (hehe) - use something to wrap round the gear shaft so its a tighter fit. possibly some card (not cardboard!), then just add as many wraps as you need until it stops popping off on you. Ofcourse this method could be more permanent than the glue if you make it too tight of a fit, so be careful.

I happened to have some loc-tite (blue i believe) in my centre console (bought it in prep. for a disc change). So when it came off on me for the Nth time, i opened that up and chucked a fair bit inside the knob (oh so many innuendo's, i need to grow up) and whacked it back on. Never had a problem since and i don't intend to replace it anyway

I used some resin glue (araldite) and a mallet to make sure it sat on it it's proper place as it sat a little higher than it should. Don't do what I did and give it a good wack will a mallet and crack the top of the gear knob jewel, to later find it can be easly oved with a small flat blade screw driver and reveal a nice flat metal plate, perfect for wacking!!!

Seriously, jump on the occasion to fit a better looking (and most important, better feeling under the hand) one.

Aftermarket knobs are fitted using a transversal grub screw to tighten it to the shaft, so it won't pop off anymore.

Else, just hammer it down. The original knob hole is slighty conical, so the harder you push it down, the better it will stay in place. People generally have problems removing it, actually.

    Get a VXR/XP2 gearstick altogether.
