    Default Thermostat

Another new problem with the car was driving along car all warmed up temp gauge sitting half way as usual stopped to pick my mate up and take him home, the car was still running and after about 30 seconds the temp gauge had dropped to the 85 mark then while driving then the needle dropped to just under the 80 mark and stayed there went back out in the car to go to tesco and the temp got to 90 and stayed there am I right in thinking the thermostat is sticking? Also the other day I drove about 10 miles and the gauge was had not moved then just went straight to 90

Was the same for me until yesterday and now it does not move at all.

Gonna put a thread up tomorrow asking for a link to the correct part.

For you its on its way out in afraid. With the vvt in sure we need the whole housing with thermostat. So far from what i have seen its around 60 for the part but don't quote me on that.

I was quoted approx. £46 incl. vat trade price from my local VX dealer but I have found by searching online that choicecarparts are advertising the same part as a genuine GM part for £37.50 plus £3.95 for delivery. It's also the updated part no. i.e. 55203388.

Well after buying the thermostat today got home and was about to start taking the thermostat off and noticed there was bubbles coming from behind the thermostat on the housing on closer inspection there is a crack all down the side nearest to the engine anyone had this problem before? Would this be the correct one for the vvt engine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-V...item2c6d5e2b27 Thanks

That looks like the right part, sounds like someone has over tightened the thermostat on. Send the thermostat back, it doesnt need a new one, just the housing.

Although I put a new thermostat on,. it sometimes drop a little way, especially in very cold weather and going down bank?

You will also need to get a litre of anti-freeze concentrate from Vauxhall etc, it dilutes 50/50.

There's many parts to that housing, you might do well to remove and inspect it before ordering a complete new one.
