    Default couple of questions

    2.2 dti vec c
    first, the boot has just a button, if my now dead car sits for a while and the battery goes, is there a way to open the boot???

    second, can i get away with changing the thermostat without draining all the coolant, how much will i lose from the 2 hoses and block??? or is it best to drain it. its just been changed and the thermostat has died

    In answer to first question, no, if battery completely dead, and you're not able to use central loccking then you can't manually open your boot unless you leave it open to start with. why don't you lock the car with the remote and then disconnect the battery to keep it alive and reconnect it to open your boot.
    second question, not sure how much you lose but apparently not a lot, someone who's done their thermostat will advice I am sure.

    I can't remember losing that much coolant when I did my thermostat. Might be about a litre at a guess. I think I lost everything in the top of the block above the thermostat housing but I'm sure my expansion tank didn't empty.

    thanks guys, i have 2 ltrs of gm antifreeze left, so might risk it
    one more thing, i want to try and preserve the car, but theres half a tank of derv in there, can i get it out of the filler with a hose, or do modern cars stop this now.
