Default Government to sell the contract for RAF and Navy Search and Rescue

Well,.. this REALLY is a silly thing. Selling this, the UK's proud services search and rescue organisation which has been with us for just over 70 years, to the Americans!!!

Sell the politicians and put Ken Dodd in number 10.

Absolutely disgusted as these toffee boys killing our once great country. We no longer deserve the title 'GREAT Britain' at all. So ashamed.

    Angry

It will simply be owned and managed by the Americans, no doubt it will be the same pilots and equipment that we always had.

Although these things appear to be cost cutting exercises, they very rarely are as the UK Government is hopeless at negotiating contracts and we will get bum raped over some clause they over looked.

This is what happens when a bunch of numskulls get into power - oh wait that's all the parties. Cameron tbh is lost (note I mean lost as out of his depth) and is struggling to pull the country back together. Think of all the service men lost in the two world wars for our freedom and the government 70 years later go and do this. Disgraceful.

It is quite misleading when they talk about selling the contract, what they breally mean is paying a private company to do the work. they are not selling anything, they are actually buying a service provider.

Not actually selling them, privatising the SaR services, and apparently there will be new aircraft and better efficiencies. To be fair, the Wessexes and Sea Kings are getting on a bit, looking at 40 year old airframes?.
Three things worry me, the new lot (Bristows?) must think they can make money, and civilians tend to have rights (like going on strike) that the military don't. Also the (volunteer) mountain rescue teams say they have not been told whether the new lot will train and work with them. Does seem rather like a gamble with lives, though they claim a 20% increase in performance - i not the existing SaR teams will be expected to ask for employment with the new - what about their service contracts?

If they didn't, why would they waste their time and effort to bid?
