    Question AFL Bulbs

    All,
Does anyone know what the AFL dipped bulbs are. It's been suggested to me that it could be either D2r or D2s.

    Paul.

What I have noticed with the newer afl lights on the facelift they are more whiter. I much prefer the pre-facelift blue look from the gsi. Why did you upgrade? Did you go for a more whiter look than standard?

Will be looking in to buying another set to match the pre-facelift colour if I can match the colour temp. I have read where most Vauxhall/ Opel bulbs are 4300K but surely not as they are too blue for that, they look more like 8000K

    Cheers,

    Paul.

There is a lot to read here guys, but well worth it before you consider changing the K rating of your bulbs.

    Clicky, linky.

I've read it a few times Martin, but i still can't fathom why the older pre-facelift lights have a nice blue glow but my facelift lights are white. Mine light up a nice colour but fade to white after few mins.

I would really like to know the difference in the pre-facelift hid bulbs and the later afl bulbs as in mine. Surely Vauxhall wouldn't have used an 8000k bulb in the GSi's?

    Paul.

Did your GSi not have these then, because they look really blue to me especially on the plod cars around Leeds.

my GSi were whitey/blue but i wanted the more blue effect which you get with the 6000k bulbs, if you know what they look like in the new range rovers you would know what i mean mate

Yeah, I thought you would have seen it before.
There is a bit in the middle about why BMW's & Audi lights appear blue, I think that probably best explains the likely difference between pre and post facelift, it's probably more to do with the design of the lights themselves and the reflectors/projectors with in them.

Their is a reason most manufacturers stick with 4300-5000K & that is the best temperature range for the best production of light. The higher kelvin you go such as 6000K > the better looking the light (ie:blue/purple colour) but the light produced is simply not as good in light depth & range as the more white/blue of the 4300-5000k range.

My wifes 130i M-sport uses standard 4300k that look almost blue/purple when turned on but settle down to a white/blue after 1 min. The light produced between this colour change cycle is quite obviously in favour of the white/blue stage
