    Default Tyre dilemma

Ok need two new front tyres to replace my nct 5's. Cannot decide between Falcon zx914's or uniroyal rainsport 2's. Size 215/50/17 91w. Getting event tyres to come out to fit. Had ze 912's on my old vec thought they were ok, just not impressed with the nct 5's. Any thoughts would be welcome.

I got "S" worn (to the frame) NCTs on my former Lancia Delta GTie and I swore I'd never fit another NCT again in my whole life.

BTW, the NTC5 that came with the Veccy were worn out in less than 5 months and frightened me to death on wet roads. I trashed them with indescribable pleasure (and a demented laugh ).

There's no dilemma here. Whatever you'll fit can't be worse anyway.

    Rainsport2's.

Best tyre I've ever had on a car.

Consider changing to the alternate size of 225/45/17. Cheaper than the 215/50/17 size.

Cheapest place online I found is camskill and then pay the local tyre garage some beer tokens to fit and balance them.

Is it wise to have both sizes of tyre on the car at the same time ? Rear still has plenty of tread on the remaining two nct 5's.

I've had Avon ZV-3 on the GSi since I got it and replaced 2 for the same new... the wear and noise levels are fine and the grip is great, wet or dry.

I went for the Rainsport 2 on standard rim 215/50/17... excellent IMO paid £110 a corner, not sure if that's good or bad, from a firm in Tipton. Found them very good in recent weeks. only had them on since middle of Jan and very impressed, as my usual tyre place don't sock my usual Avon ZV5's.

Event tyres want £110 a corner fully fitted at standard size for rainsport 2's mobile tyre fitting at place of work. Only cheaper at camskill but my local tyre place always charge over the odds for fitting as not bought through them. Had zv3's before didn't like them in cold weather.

I like the ZV5's but when another local dealer wanted £141... yes.. I decided that it was time to put the Uniroyals to the test. Glad I did too!.

I ran 225/45/17 on the front and 215/50/17 on the rear for over 2 years. As long as the same sized tyres are on the same axles then it's not a problem.

    I'm getting 2 x 225/45/17 91Ws fitted at Merityre Abingdon (through their www.bestbuytyres.co.uk website) for £187.48 (£93.74 each).

I would normally have got them from Camskill and paid ATS £10 a corner to fit them, which would have worked out slightly cheaper, but I'm also having some other work done at Merityre so killing two birds with one stone.

Had I gone for the 215/50/17 size then the price would have been £228.72 for two (£41.24 dearer)
