Hmm, interesting! Looks like the laptop will be in the car with me tomorrow then so I can update it, fingers crossed its something as simple as an update although with my luck...... !!

probably not connected correctly, something loose don't think a software update will fix it as it was already installed when he bought the car.
Parrot kits can be either connected to a car stereo aux input (or to an amplifier), or can be inserted between the male and the female speakers ISO plugs.
In this case, an internal relay switches the headunit / amplifier output signal off and switches the Parrot output instead, so it's actually independant from any audio device being switched on etc.
It's pretty much the easiest way and should work straight on. Some models may have selectable outputs, though, so first ensure you've plugged the speakers loom, and second, browse through the Parrot's settings menu and search for the relevant sound output option...
Oh ! In that case, maybe the former owner used an aftermarket headunit, but he refitted the OEM radio straight into the plugs in the rack before selling the car, and the Parrot speakers loom might have been left unplugged ?
Yes, I was thinking as it has no spoken menus then it can't be the connection but a software update won't hurt. Just bought some radio removal keys so I'll see what's plugged in and what's not
Well after a nightmare with the laptop bluetooth deciding to play up I managed to pair the laptop and parrot and then do the update but it didn't help! Still no sound! I'll now wait for the radio removal keys to come in the post and see whats plugged in or loose behind the radio
There are two types of set-up
If it is a basic CK kit, then it will probably use the standard car kit wires.
There should be a telemute wire that goes to the head-unit (Quadlock pin 11)
When set to ground, this cuts radio sound, pauses the CD and displays the message "External In" - not to be confused with Aux-In.
Then audio wires from the car kit go to quadlock connector pins 34 and 40.
These two wires will transfer the telephone audio through your car front speakers.
For laziness though, as described above, many people just run these two audio wires to a footwell mounted speaker.
And also as said - if the speaker has been removed - there-in would lie your problem.
On the higher Speck MKi type units,
There is a simple adapter / interface loom that daisy chains the audio as follows
CAR SPEAKER LOOM ---goes to --- PARROT UNIT --- goes to --- HEADUNIT.
This is what Z80 was describing above.
If this is the type of connection used, then it does sound like the head-unit has been plugged back into the car's loom socket, leaving the parrot loom ISO plugs dangling doing nothing.
You really need to remove your glove box, and have a good look near there for the parrot unit, to see what is going where... and if anything is undone / loose or cut-off
Thanks Rob
I didn't get time today to check for the speaker as the day panned out a little different to what I hoped for and then it got dark.
Glove box removal, just yank it down or are there clips to remove first?
Done properly -
Glove box removal requires you to unscrew 5 self-tapping screws, with torx sockets.
T20 or T25 comes to mind..
There are three across the top, and one in each bottom corner - ish.
Be carefull about the glovebox light connection when you pull the glove box out.
There is a footwell top cover attached to the rear of the glove-box, so this will come away with the glove box.
If you find that some interior lighting stops working after you have put it all back, it is likely that you have blown fuse No 12 at the end of the dash... it is a common occurence when peole have removed / refitted the glovebox lighting.
You will then get a fantastic view of everything to the left (assuming UK car) of the central facia panel, and you should be able to see behind the radio.
Most car kits, including parrots and Nokia's etc are normaly stowed in behind the glovebox, due to available space back there.

when set to ground! what does that exactly mean rob does it need to earthed?
... Or give your parrot some bread drenched in wine : it's said to make them talk...
